Training, education and staff development is always a priority here at Victoire. We know how important it is for our people to feel motivated and we make sure we continue to invest in them with a variety of professional and personal development resources.
Firstly, we do a lot of in-house training. New starters always get a thorough induction with a chance to experience all our different departments. Understanding every step of the process is key for excellent customer service so we make sure everyone is familiar with all the areas of the business. Likewise, any staff members expressing a particular interest in a given area will always find willing colleagues to help show them the ropes.
Whenever we get a new piece of machinery or equipment we always ensure that the supplier provides full training in its use. For example, we recently upgraded our large format printer and the suppliers came in to do a comprehensive training session so that everyone who will be involved in using it is really confident doing so.
We also organise plenty of external training and development for staff. Last year Clare and Tony both completed a Management Development course, while this year it’s Dominic and Lyn who will take the course. This consists of half a day a month over a whole year, and is run by Jacqui Kemp and David Lynch at Namasté Culture Ltd. It provides really valuable management skills and professional guidance and support, but also a great deal of personal development insight.
It’s not just our staff we want to encourage – we take on two or three work experience students each year too, as we understand how important it is for students to get some real workplace hours under their belts and some genuine insight into the working world. In fact, that’s exactly how our Studio Manager James came to work for us; he did work experience here at the tender age of 15 and joined us when he left school a year later. That was back in 1997, and he’s still with us. So who knows, some more people might end up working here once they complete their education!
We pride ourselves on listening to our staff, and giving support in their ongoing training and education. One of our new starters, Stuart, is a printer and print finisher and is about to begin a print apprenticeship with the British Print Industry Federation (BPIF), our official trade association. While working at Victoire, Clare completed her chartered accountancy qualification (ACCA); we always try to support anyone who expresses a professional interest in a particular area to help them fulfil their ambitions.
Victoire always aims to provide unbeatable customer service, and in order to achieve that, we need to employ motivated and fulfilled people who love their work. Ensuring that we continue to invest in our people through their ongoing development is a big part of that, and one we are fully committed to.
