Desktop publishing giant Adobe may be about to launch a new service to allow online document sharing, according to PDFzone.
The service will form part of the offering for the latest version of Adobe's PDF product Adobe Acrobat 9. Although Adobe refuse to comment on speculation it is belived that the service will work by allowing businesses using Acrobat software to upload their PDF documents onto Adobe's server via the Adobe.com website. Once uploaded the PDFs can be viewed, downloaded and marked-up by collaborators before being uploaded again. In other words the system works in much the same way as a company intranet. The service will most likely be of use to smaller businesses that do not have an intranet and companies working with outside agencies who do not wish to grant access to their intranet.
Acrobat 9 is expected in summer 2008.
