Software developer callashas produced and Adobe Indesign plug in that can scan and correct problems in PDFs, reports Graphic Exchange News.

The plugin requires Adobe 6 or 7 and comes with a range of prepress options including "prepare for sheet CMYK" or "prepare for web printing spot news". It also fixes 100 other problems including font issues and outputs a report on the changes.
